I’m in a new home, in a new state, on a new coast – YAY!. You name it – it’s new to me! I sold everything when I left NYC. This is an exercise in massive de-cluttering and facing huge fears.

Why am I sharing this with you?

This is the same way it feels when you let go of calorie counting and dieting. You have to reconnect with your body to build a relationship that hasn’t been there.

Like moving into a new home, you need to get familiar with everything and make it your own. It’s time to test things out, see what works, see what fits and what doesn’t. It’s reconnecting with you to get to know your likes and dislikes, and to rebuild trust.

Releasing the “Dieter’s Mentality” means letting go of years of depriving, calorie counting, no-carbs, killer workouts and the list goes on and on. This mentality has become all you know. To let go of “dieting” is to trust your body to work for you and this feels incredibly scary and uncomfortable. In fact this is opposite what is too commonly taught and adopted – to diet and be in control.

In order to be free from dieting, you have to let go of what you “think” you need or “have to do”. Instead, it’s about tuning into what your body needs and full self-acceptance.

It feels scary as hell. I know, because I did it.

I felt the anguish as I questioned why I wanted food when I came home at night. Why was food the only thing that seemed to soothe me?

The answer…

It was all I knew to do. Instead of seeking what it was I really needed, I returned to what I knew, again, and again, and again.

I’m going to be completely honest. This is not as simple as just checking in.

It’s choosing you more and more often, and each time you do, you strengthen your inner muscle.

I have a client in my Healthy Hot and Happy for Life group who reached out for help at the end of an exhausting 12 hour day when she was yearning carbs and anything to give herself a release. She sat with her feelings and questioned them. It was hard, BUT instead of eating, she changed her pattern. She took a bath and asked me “Melissa, will this get easier?”

The answer is YES. But you have to keep at it and soon you will feel the shift and be empowered because you’ll realize you don’t need food. You need you. You need connection. You need sleep. You need expression. You need love…

I had the “perfect body”. It doesn’t make a difference unless you’re healed on the inside.

Start healing inside and the body will come!

My goal this holiday season is to bombard you with as much support as possible. I want you to feel and look great, and truly enjoy the holiday season.
